Halo Dental Technologies is a startup on a mission to improve dentistry for all. Its first product, the Halo Digital Mirror, is a fog-free dental mirror with an intraoral camera that works with an app to streamline treatment planning and patient communications. It’s a turnkey solution that includes software and ergonomically advanced dental tools that make running a dental practice easier and improve the patient experience.

Helping a startup glow up

Most people don’t enjoy going to the dentist, but Halo Dental is reimagining a better dental experience for all. Like many startups, its vision was clear but its brand experience wasn’t, and selling a product that’s never been seen before isn’t easy. Halo Dental sought LG2’s expertise to create an exciting new brand identity and digital platform that would not only launch its groundbreaking product but also generate enough buzz to kick-start mass production.

Shining a light on every detail

The guiding principle behind Halo’s brand identity was a harmonious fusion of technology and humanity. The name “Halo” represents both a ring of light and the altruistic promise that dentists make to care for their patients. While the bright colours reflect the excitement, vitality and energy of a startup, the photography injects a dose of serenity through the use of light and shadow in a direct reference to the company’s name.

The logo is a pivotal element of the new identity. Composed of two shapes based on the mirror’s light to create the letter H, it’s the anchor of a functional, dynamic and flexible graphic language with room for expansion. Halo Dental’s brand can continue to grow as the company does.

A digital mindset

To help Halo Dental communicate the features of this first-of-its-kind product, LG2 focused on interactive 3D demonstrations inside a treatment room. Scroll-triggered animations make the Halo Dental Mirror’s technical specifications more digestible as potential customers explore the entire product ecosystem.

Brightening the experience

The shape and motion of the Halo Dental Mirror’s light inspired the dynamic design system. A custom pattern was fabricated by replicating the light’s oval shape at various angles and adding motion. We then created a tool that Halo Dental can use to generate as many custom patterns as it wants. The lights also influenced the many UI components and mouse interactions.

Personalizing the customer journey

Because Halo Dental needed to confirm interest and raise capital before moving to mass production, the e-commerce experience was pivotal. As a product that includes many add-on packages and extensions, a custom user flow was created to collect all the personalized information required and build a waitlist to ensure successful production.

The future is bright

Launched at the 2024 Midwinter Meeting of the Chicago Dental Society, one of the largest dentistry conventions in North America, the Halo Digital Mirror immediately caught the attention of the entire industry. Preorder targets were quickly exceeded, and the startup won the prestigious Red Dot Award for its impeccable design within months of launch. In short, the future looks bright for Halo Dental.
