“Lithion Technologies is making rapid progress on its development plan. Our rebranding was a natural step in the evolution of our company. LG2 took the time to understand who we are to design a new brand ecosystem that truly brought our mission and values to life. It’s a testament to both our innovative technological capabilities and the inspirational people leading it.”
Benoit Couture
President and CEO, Lithion Technologies
Lithion Technologies was founded in 2018 to create circularity for battery materials. This led the pioneer to develop cutting-edge technologies and find partners to make recycling lithium-ion batteries at scale possible. In 2023, the organization announced the construction of its first commercial critical mineral extraction plant, Lithion Saint-Bruno. However, with the commercialization of the company and arrival of other players in the industry, Lithion needed a brand to match the excellence of its technological solutions.
LG2 was brought in to help Lithion position itself as the innovative leader that it truly is, develop a strong brand identity that can take it to the next growth phase, and build a top-tier digital experience that aligns with its technological prowess.
Lithion is all about groundbreaking technology but also about preserving what’s most important: the living world. The company has the ability to recycle 95% of battery materials while generating 72% less greenhouse gases and using 96% less water than mining.
Through its patented technology, Lithion extracts black mass, a powder containing the materials critical to manufacturing batteries. It then separates the black mass into different materials of unrivalled purity: cobalt, lithium and nickel, which can be reintroduced into the production process. This advanced recycling process was the foundation for the new brand platform. But it isn’t just about the science, Lithion’s people play a fundamental role in the process and are the driving force behind the business’ ambitions. A new look required total alignment with the mission, vision and values that set Lithion apart from the rest.
The notion of circularity was incorporated directly into the refreshed logo, which was preserved from the original brand platform but reworked for greater impact and strength. To add dynamism to the brand and represent both the division of elements and circularity in Lithion’s advanced technological process, multiple animated and 3D versions of the logo were developed for a variety of applications. A series of 3D visuals and photos of critical materials are an integral part of the new brand platform, reflecting the DNA of the company: human innovation.
The new website features a sleek and modern aesthetic with a predominantly green and white colour palette. Visitors are greeted by a striking full-width animation on the homepage showcasing a new green shoot on black soil, a metaphor for the black mass recycling process.
The layout is clean and well-structured, featuring a responsive design built on GSAP that adapts seamlessly across various devices for a professional and engaging user experience. As you navigate through the site, smooth animations and subtle transitions enhance the overall interactivity and support the site’s content. Using Lottie animations, the new Technologies page simplifies Lithion’s hydrometallurgy process and illustrates how their patented technology produces strategic battery-grade materials. For greater accessibility, there is a menu with an option to turn off all animations if needed.
Lithion has developed a sustainable, robust, and safe solution to produce strategic materials from Lithium-ion batteries. These batteries are found in everyday items such as electric cars, rechargeable tools, and electronic equipment. Our technologies enable the recovery of up to 95% of their components with an environmental footprint significantly smaller than mining. Our solution makes the energy transition truly sustainable by ensuring these materials remain within the battery supply chain. Lithion closes the loop!
