Valérie Bedard, creative content director at LG2’s Québec office, lives in a retro-pop world. Her home is a colourful cocoon that she calls her greatest project and a work in progress. Second-hand treasures find new life here, thanks to her confident DIY skills. Becoming a homeowner and mother sparked her passion for creating, repairing, and upcycling objects, elevating her independence to new heights.
Always on the lookout for inspiration, she jumps into her scrapmobile heading for thrift stores, vintage shops and the obligatory stop at Value Village. In these types of stores, on top of vintage clothing, she also found inspiration for what was to become her will it lamp series. These upcycled artifacts and whimsical creations that she breathes life into set the stage for her creativity as a self-taught DIY enthusiast. An old banana-shaped flower pot? A faded lampshade? Wooden marbles from a forgotten children's game? Valérie's imagination knows no bounds when it comes to brightening up a room in her home!
She lets her creativity flow in a cozy studio beneath her home. In this low-ceilinged basement, you'll find works in progress, spray paint, and bins full of thingamabobs. Valérie has a passion for power tools and confidently drills, files, and saws. It's no surprise that she initially aspired to study industrial design at the beginning of her career! In this creative haven, you'll also find a few longboards, a hobby and mode of transport Valérie discovered later in life during the COVID pandemic.
Valérie seeks inspiration and is dedicated to passing it on. Her children, whom she affectionately calls her "p'tits chums", accompany her everywhere. Together, they make little dreams come true embarking on stress-free adventures. Valérie enjoys discovering new places, things, and people through their eyes. Museums, exhibitions, performances, and even wrestling matches are among the activities she does with them.
When it comes to wrestling, saying Valérie is just passionate about it would be putting it lightly. A WWE fan since her teen years, she’s thrilled that wrestling matches have made a strong comeback in Limoilou (or Foufounes Électriques when she’s in the city). The dramatic spectacle of good versus evil truly excites her. She puts on a lively show as an audience member, cheering loudly for her favourite wrestlers and booing the ones she dislikes as they make their way to the ring.
Valérie loves genuine people, and she, herself, is the perfect example of keeping it real. Her passion for pop culture is evident in everything she does. As a content specialist, she’s always keeping an eye on what’s happening in the world, staying up-to-date with trends, and following current events. Her punk inclinations play a significant role in this; her lifestyle and mindset consistently challenge the status quo.
In Valérie’s opinion, taking ourselves too seriously can stifle our sense of wonder, hence her hot dog tattoo. She recalls a day when things weren't going well, and she found herself crying over a plate of osso bucco. When she told her sister, the response was, "At least you weren’t crying over a hot dog." Being around Valérie means seeing the lighter side of life, because at the end of the day she’s a punk kid at heart.
