If you were to stalk Rachael’s Instagram (by all means you should), you’d be sucked in by pictures of mountains, her dog, remote nature, her dog, crazy adventures, her dog in a canoe… beat that, Luke. Whenever she isn't working, she's out discovering another corner of the great outdoors. She’s always happy to talk about her many adventures and will loves to tell you why she thinks “it’s just so cool how diverse the world is.” From her daily life in Toronto to camping trips deep in the woods, her feed is proof that she’s out there to see it all. Given the choice, she’ll always pick a long stroll in the mountains over a scroll through her Instagram feed.
Rachael grew up in Hamilton, with her parents and younger sister. Though she rarely makes it out there these days, she considers the region to be a hidden Ontarian gem that manages to make her feel like she isn’t even in the city, though it’s only 15 minutes away from busy civilization. Plus, she’d tell you it’s worth the detour to stop by Donut Monster to pick up one of their legendary donuts!
Her dad is the original influencer who brought her outdoors and connected her with nature. Today, she finds it truly grounds her and keeps her calm in a world – and a business – where there is constantly something new to take in. This passion also shaped her to be curious and to want to discover the world and all it has to offer, so she’s set off on multiple occasions to see lots of it.
She’s been off the grid exploring Yukon and Alaska’s breathtaking landscapes, and she’s also toured teaming European countries such as Spain, Italy and Belgium.
More recently, she and her partner took off on a two-month road trip. Together, they set out with their gear and drove from Tofino to New Jersey, stopping in many towns along the way such as Nashville. They did most of it camping, sometimes sleeping directly in their car, and on colder nights, staying in hotels. Their only regret? They wish they’d had more than two months to see it all.
But ultimately, her favourite places are hidden up in the mountains, like Crater Lake, Oregon. Perhaps it’s the humbling sense which mountains instill in her, in perfect contrast to a job that constantly seeks more followers. To quote Rachael: “The mountains don’t give a shit about you.” That’s why her personal Instagram is filled with pictures of mountains, and her very good dog.
She and her partner, along with their dog, entertain the dream to gut a van, make it liveable and set out to explore the luxury of van life, where they could just get up and go anywhere, anytime. Rachael would love to settle somewhere that would allow her to spend more time in nature, though that would ask for a complete lifestyle shift and right now, she loves what she does too much.
However, that won’t change the fact that she wants to see as many mountains as possible and take in all the different landscapes out there. What’s next? Could be South America, Asia, the Alps…
