LG2 is currently looking for an English Copy Editor-Translator to join our Linguistic Services team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for editing English copy as well as adapting and translating a variety of documents from French to English.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

Reporting to the Senior Editor, you will edit unilingual marketing communication copy and do comparative bilingual revisions. Based on your native command of the English language and your thorough understanding of the nuances of the French language, you will seamlessly revise documents, rooting out every instance of Franglais, while respecting each client’s house style and tone. You will also be asked to translate and adapt administrative texts from French to English.

You will follow up with the agency’s internal resources – copywriters, art directors, client services and others – for all editing and translation needs. With your collaborative spirit and superior communication skills, you are adept at conducting open, constructive conversations with your peers when critiquing writing.

On the practical side, you will also be responsible for using the latest editing and translation tools to meet the agency’s current needs.

Last but not least, you’re the kind of person who’s always on top of things and who quickly adapts when the situation (or copy) changes. This means you’re quick on your feet...and your keyboard!

Ideally, you are someone who

  • Holds a bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Possesses a minimum of 3 years of experience in editing and translation (French to English)
  • Has a native understanding of the English language and a solid command of French
  • Consistently demonstrates a thorough grasp of grammatical, spelling and linguistic rules
  • Demonstrates a fine understanding of the nuances of the French language and the challenges of adapting them into English
  • Has experience in an agency environment and understands the hectic pace of the business
  • Shows consistent attention to quality, technique and detail
  • Constantly seeks to expand their linguistic knowledge (inclusivity and diversity, language evolution, etc.)
  • Is proactive about streamlining processes and improving service
  • Is familiar with translation tools (CAT, translation memory, terminology banks, etc.), an asset
