English Copy Editor and Translator

Reporting to the Senior English Copy Editor, you will edit unilingual marketing communications copy and do comparative bilingual revisions. Using your native command of the English language and your thorough understanding of French, you will seamlessly revise documents, rooting out all French influences, while respecting each client’s house style and tone. You will also be asked to translate administrative texts, press releases and internal communications from French to English.  

You will follow up with the agency’s internal resources – copywriters, art directors, client services and others – on various editing and translation requests. With your collaborative spirit and sharp communication skills, you are able to have open, constructive conversations with your peers when critiquing writing.

On the practical side, you will also be responsible for using the latest editing and translation tools to meet the agency’s needs.

Last but not least, you’re the kind of person who’s always on top of things and who quickly adapts when the situation (or copy) changes. This means you’re quick on your feet...and your keyboard!

• A bachelor’s degree in a related field
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in editing and translation (French to English)
• A native understanding of the English language and a solid command of French
• A thorough grasp and love for English grammar and spelling
• A clear, concise writing style, with the ability to pen a catchy headline
• Familiar with Quebec French and its lexicon
• Demonstrates consistent, rigorous attention to detail and the quality of language
• Constantly seeks to expand their linguistic knowledge (inclusivity and diversity, language evolution, etc.)
• Comfortable discussing grammatical and semantic nuances
• Proactive about streamlining work processes and improving service
• Experience in an agency environment, an asset
• Familiar with translation tools (computer-assisted translation, translation memories, terminology banks, etc.), an asset
